  • Yale Leads Nation in All-Academic and Scholar-Athlete Distinctions

    The Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) announcement of All-Academic Team and Scholar-Athlete honorees this week once again confirmed that the members of the Yale men's tennis team are committed to success in the classroom. Yale was honored as an ITA All-Academic Team for a record 19th straight year and all 12 of Yale's players for the 2013-14 season earned the designation of ITA Scholar-Athletes.

    The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released its final national and regional rankings for the 2013-14 season earlier this week, with both the Yale men's tennis team and player Tyler Lu receiving regional recognition. The squad came in at No. 9 among Division I teams in the Northeast Region, while Lu notched a final regional ranking of No. 5 in singles.

    The Ivy League released the names of those honored with All-Ivy selections Wednesday, and Yale freshman Tyler Lu earned a spot on the First Team in singles. Lu's selection to the First Team was unanimous, and he holds the distinction of being the only freshman in the Ivy League to receive First Team recognition.

The Bears will host. A win for the Bulldogs will move them into a tie with Penn at No. 6 in the standings.

On Sunday, the Elis will take on Fordham at 12:00 p.m., with a match against Bryant to follow at approximately 4:00 p.m.

    The Yale men's tennis team produced clutch play down the stretch on Saturday to secure a 4-3 upset over No. 51 Central Florida for its biggest win of the season so far. Playing in its last "Battle at the Beach" match at UNC Wilmington's courts, the Bulldogs displayed superb teamwork to claim the doubles point before edging the Knights in singles play. Junior Zachary Krumholz provided the day's heroics as he clinched the Eli victory in a tough three-set match at No. 6 singles.

This time around, the two teams met on a neutral site at UNC Wilmington's courts as part of the annual "Battle at the Beach". After edging Binghamton in doubles play, the Elis were able to fend off a comeback by Binghamton in singles, clinching two crucial three-set wins.

    The Yale men's tennis team lost its first match at the "Battle at the Beach" on Wednesday against No. 55 UNC Wilmington. By powering their way to five victories in singles, the host Seahawks prevailed 5-2 in a rematch of last year's encounter between the two teams. The defeat was not without some highlights for the Bulldogs, however. The Elis began the match with an upset in doubles en route to stealing the doubles point, and then freshman Tyler Lu notched an impressive upset at No. 1 singles.

    The Yale men's tennis team will make its spring break trek to the Tar Heel State this week to take part in the annual "Battle at the Beach". No. 55 UNC Wilmington will host Yale, Binghamton and No. 51 Central Florida at the Seahawks' home courts. Yale's first encounter will be against UNC Wilmington on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. After a day of rest on Thursday, Yale will square off on Friday against its fellow Northeast competitor, Binghamton, starting at 10:00 a.m. Following this match, the Elis will return to UNC Wilmington's courts one last time for a 10:00 a.m. Saturday clash against Central Florida.

This past weekend, Chase, along with his doubles teammate Kyle Dawson, won their match against Old Dominion by a convincing score of 8-4.   • Yale Enters Tripleheader Weekend on Three-Match Winning Streak

    In its first week of spring break, the Yale men's tennis team will once again hold the home court advantage when the squad takes on three different opponents this weekend. Over the course of Saturday and Sunday, the Bulldogs will challenge familiar rivals Fairleigh Dickinson, Marist and Stony Brook. The Elis will aim to extend their three-match winning streak. The action begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday when the Bulldogs take on Stony Brook. Later on Saturday at 4 p.m. Yale will commence singles play against Marist, with doubles to follow on Sunday morning starting at 9 a.m. After they complete their match against Marist on Sunday, the Elis will play Fairleigh Dickinson to finish off the weekend.

    Rejuvenated after three weeks of rest, the Yale men's tennis team entered Sunday's encounter against Old Dominion with purpose. Having narrowly edged Old Dominion in a nail-biting clash one year ago, the Bulldogs knew that a tough challenge was ahead of them if they were off their games. Yale (4-2, 0-0 Ivy) came out strong on its home courts to claim the doubles point, and then never looked back to run away with the 6-1 victory.

    After a three-week hiatus from competitive match play, the Yale men's tennis team will look to hit the ground running again when it faces Old Dominion this Sunday.
