Dawson Advances to Consolation Singles Final
PRINCETON, N.J. – After a difficult opening day for the Bulldogs at the Princeton-Farnsworth Invitational, four members of the team returned to the courts to play their respective consolation matches Saturday. While a freshman dropped a close match, a senior managed to advance to the final of his consolation bracket.
After scoring his first college win on Friday, freshman Tyler Lu returned to the court Saturday to face off against Bernardo Casares of Cornell for a berth in the final of their consolation draw. Lu stood toe-to-toe with Casares throughout the encounter, but Casares narrowly scraped through with a 6-5(5), 6-5(6) win.
Senior captain Kyle Dawson had more success in his consolation semifinal matchup, easing to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Octavio Canibe of Bucknell. Dawson is set to play the final of his consolation flight on Sunday against Ismael Dinia of Binghamton.
Dawson is the only Bulldog still alive in the tournament, as both James Ratchford and Martin Svenning lost their respective consolation matches Saturday. Max Novak of Cornell defeated Ratchford in the quarterfinals of their consolation draw, 6-2, 6-1, while Svenning was forced to retire due to injury in the middle of his second set against Ashok Narayana of Columbia.
Sunday's action begins at 9:00 a.m. at Princeton's Lenz Tennis Center. Dawson's match is scheduled to start at this time.
