NEW HAVEN, CT – Yale men's tennis concluded the Ivy Plus Championships on Sunday with matches at both Yale and Princeton University. At Yale, the team played three singles matches while at the Princeton location, sophomore Alan Sou and first-year Michael Sun battled in the final of their doubles draw.
In singles play at Yale, the Bulldogs had strong performances in all matches. Senior Dennis Wang was dominant against Brown's Will Bader, as he secured a comfortable 6-1, 6-3 victory. Senior captain Nate Brown played a thrilling three-set match that came down to a tiebreaker against Penn's Kaden Funk before eventually falling 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (3). Bulldog first-year Arnav Dhingra, who had an impressive string of wins this weekend, battled against Harvard's Steven Sun in another close three-set match. Although Sun eventually topped Dhingra 4-6, 6-2, 7-5, Dhingra's performance continued to show promise for the upcoming fall season.
Over at Princeton, Yale's duo of Sou and Sun faced Columbia's Jack Turchetta and Rian Pandole in the final of their doubles draw. The Bulldog pair advanced to the finals after defeating Columbia's Harris Walker and Penn's Jadon Hildebrandt on Friday and Harvard's Harris Walker and Samuel Beren on Saturday. Sou and Sun had dominant performances in both of those matches, winning each by a score of 8-2. Although the young duo contended well against Turchetta and Pandole in the final, they eventually lost 6-3, with Turchetta and Pandole being crowned winners of their doubles draw.
Despite this difficult loss in the final day of the tournament, the Bulldogs presented strong promise for the upcoming season, as the team's youth of Alan Sou, Arnav Dhingra and Michael Sun shined throughout the three days. Yale will play next in the ITA Championships, which begin next Saturday in Tulsa, Oklahoma for the All-American Championships and Princeton, New Jersey for the Regional Championships.
