Ryan saw limited action his freshman year. He posted a 4-2 tournament singles record in the fall, but lost both of his spring dual match contests.
The summer before his freshman season Ryan reached the third round of the USTA Super Nationals in Kalamazoo and finished his first year in the 18 & Under ranked #133. The previous year in the 16 & Under he reached a high of #59. He was the captain of the Bryam Hills High School team and received All-State Honors. He participated in Athletes Helping Athletes Program which teaches 6th grade students leadership, life skills, and sportsmanship.
