CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Yale men's tennis team suffered a tough defeat today at the hands of its second top-50 opponent in two days, losing 7-0 to No. 30 North Carolina at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center in Chapel Hill to drop to 0-2 on the season.
The Tar Heels swept the three doubles matches to jump out to a quick 1-0 lead. No. 1 Rowan Reynolds and Rory Green fell 8-4 to Raian Luchici and Brad Pomeroy, the No. 1 doubles team in the country. At No. 2, Brandon Wai and Josh Lederman were set back 8-5 by Lenny Gullan and David Stone, and Sebastian Guejman and Derek Porter downed Michael Caldwell and Jeff Dawson in the No. 3 slot.
Luchici, currently ranked No. 5 in the nation in singles, beat No. 33 Wai in straight sets at No. 1, 6-1, 6-0. UNC's other player ranked in the top 100, No. 93 Benjamin Carlotti, defeated Jeff Dawson 6-2, 6-4 in the No. 4 slot. Milosz Gudzowski, Michael Caldwell, Rowan Reynolds and Rory Green also lost their matches in straight sets.
The Bulldogs return to action at home this weekend, where they will face Rutgers on Sat., Feb. 10 at 2:30 p.m. and Army on Sun., Feb. 11 at 12:30 p.m.
