Bulldogs Win Two to Start Season

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Bulldogs defeated the University of South Carolina, Upstate and Georgetown Saturday at home to start the year off at 2-0.

Against USC Upstate, Yale pulled out a 5-2 victory. Despite losing the doubles point, the Bulldogs won five of six singles matches to win the match.

Playing No. 1 singles, senior Jeff Dawson won 6-3, 6-1 over Renzo Airaldi. Senior Michael Caldwell battled to a 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 win over Edgar Rodriguez at No. 2 singles. Playing No. 3 singles, sophomore Calvin Bennett pulled out the 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win over Jack Roux.

In his dual match debut for Yale, freshman Joel Samaha won at No. 4 singles 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 victory over Javier Tori. Playing No. 5 singles, freshman Erik Blumenkranz defeated Leandro Osorio in straight sets 6-4, 6-1.

Against Georgetown, the Bulldogs won all six singles matches to win the match 6-0. With the match already decided, Yale and Georgetown did not play doubles matches.
