Irvine, CA - The Yale men's tennis team, currently ranked No. 66 nationally, suffered a tough loss today against UC Irvine. The Bulldogs drop to 4-4 for the season, although they look to redeem themselves against Santa Barbara this Sunday as they continue their west coast swing.

Rory Green '08 and Jeff Dawson '09 had the Elis' two wins of the day. Dawson trounced opponent Mustafa Ulukan in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, to claim the No. 3 spot. In the No. 6 spot, Green played a tough match against Shimpei Suzuki, going 3-6, 7-6(4), 6-2, to finally clinch the win.

Victor Lamm upset No. 1 Brandon Wai '07, currently ranked No. 58 in the nation, in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4. In the No. 2 spot, Aaron Ellis beat Milosz Gudzowski '06, 6-1, 7-6(3). Michael Caldwell '09 was defeated by Andrei Radulescu, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 4 spot. No. 5 Rowan Reynolds put up a good fight by winning the second set against Alex Sudling, but finally succumbed in the third set, 6-4, 6-7(6), 7-6(3).

Due to inclement weather, the match started an hour late and doubles matches were not played. The Bulldogs continue their west coast tour on Sunday, Mar. 12, at 1 p.m. when they face off against Santa Barbara.
