Loyola Marymount Defeats Yale 4-3

Los Angeles, CA - In its first spring trip match, Yale (4-3) fell to Loyola Marymount (5-5) 4-3 Wednesday. The Bulldogs won matches at No. 2, 4, and 5 singles in the loss.

Juniors Jeff Dawson and Josh Lederman won at No. 2 doubles over Renzo Maggi and Stefan Nikolic 8-1, but the Bulldogs lost the doubles point by losing at both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

At No. 2 singles, senior Rory Green defeated Sam Tadevosian 6-2, 4-6, 6-2. After losing the first set 6-3, sophomore Matt Schimmel defeated opponent Aris Andreasian 6-4 in the second set and 10-7 in a third set tiebreaker at No. 5 singles. Freshman Calvin Bennett cruised to a straight set 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles over Johan Berhof.

The Bulldogs came up short of the one four victories necessary to defeat Loyola Marymount. At No. 1 singles, Jeff Dawson lost in a hard fought three set match to opponent Jacek Twarowski. After losing the first set 6-4, Dawson won the next set 6-3 before losing the final set 6-2.

Sophomore Connor Dawson also battled back from a first set deficit before losing in three sets to his opponent. Playing at No. 3 singles, Connor Dawson lost to opponent Renzo Maggi 6-2, 2-6, 7-5.

The Bulldogs will take on UC Santa Barbara Thursday.
