PRINCETON, N.J. - Men's tennis bounced back from a tough loss at Penn yesterday to down the Princeton Tigers today, 5-2. The Bulldogs (8-7, 1-1) swept the doubles matches and won several tight singles matches to even their Ivy League record at 1-1.
The Elis roared out of the gates in doubles, winning all three matches. No. 1 Rowan Reynolds and Rory Green defeated Andrew Lieu and Ted Mabrey, 8-4, the No. 2 team of Brandon Wai and Michael Caldwell nipped Hans Plukas and Alex Krueger-Wyman, 8-6, and No. 3 Milosz Gudzowski and Chris Lawler downed Darius Craton and Shannon Morales, 8-3.
The Bulldogs' performance in several very close singles matches was also crucial in the victory. No. 3 Jeff Dawson continued his impressive rookie campaign with a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 win over Lieu. No. 6 Reynolds also won in three sets, defeating Morales 6-2, 5-7, 7-6. No. 1 Wai and No. 4 Caldwell rounded out the singles wins with two-set victories.
The Elis will play Columbia and Cornell this weekend to open up their home Ivy League schedule. The Bulldogs face the Lions at 2:30 p.m. on Fri., Apr. 14, and will play the Big Red at 12:30 p.m. on Sat., Apr. 15.
