Bulldogs Fall To Brown, 4-3

April 26, 2006

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Yale men's tennis team dropped a tough 4-3 match to Brown today in Providence to close out its regular season. No. 1 Brandon Wai, currently No. 85 in the nation, defeated No. 101 Dan Hanegby to finish the season undefeated in Ivy League singles play.

The Bulldogs fell behind early, dropping all three doubles matches, and attempted to rally in the singles portion of the match. Wai scored a scintillating three-set win over Hanegby, winning 6-2, 4-6, 1-0(6). No. 4 Michael Caldwell's three-set match also went into a tiebreaker, and he was eventually able to outlast Saurabh Kohli, 6-7, 6-0, 1-0(8). The Elis' third win came from No. 2 Milosz Gudzowski, who thrashed Basudev Ratnam, 6-2, 6-0.

"Their doubles play was very impressive," said Cary Leeds Head Coach Alex Dorato afterward. He remarked, though, that Gudzowski's win was particularly impressive.

"[Gudzowski] beat a really good player at No. 2 in straight sets," he said.

Yale finishes the regular season with an 11-9 record (4-3 Ivy), good for a tie for third in the Ancient Eight.
