Caldwell, Bennett Make Semis at Princeton Farnsworth

Princeton, NJ - Junior Michael Caldwell fell in the semifinals of the "A" Flight Singles at the Princeton Farnsworth Invitational in Princeton. Freshman Calvin Bennett came up short in the semifinals of the "B" Flight Singles.

Caldwell, seeded No. 4 in the tournament, came up with a 6-0, 6-2 victory in his first match over St. Joseph's Pat Adams. Facing Princeton's Alex Krueger-Wyman in the round of sixteen, Caldwell managed a 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 victory. After dropping the first set in the quarterfinals to Penn's Justin Fox, Caldwell bounced back to win the match 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. In the finals, Caldwell came up short against No. 1 seed Raoul Schwark of Minnesota, the eventual winner of the tournament. Schwark won the match 6-4, 7-6.

Bennett, seeded No. 3 in the "B" Flight Singles, made it all the way to the semifinals of the tournament before falling. In his first match against St. Joseph's Nick Tuxen, Bennett cruised to a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Bennett then overcame a one set deficit to defeat Ilya Trubov of Princeton 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Facing Columbia's Ilia Shatashvili in the quarterfinals, Bennett battled to a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory. Bennett then fell in the semifinals to Columbia's Dan Urban 6-2, 6-1.

Junior Jeff Dawson made it to the semifinals of the "A" Flight consolation. After losing in the first round of the main draw to No. 4 seed Tobias Wernet of Minnesota, Dawson defeated Rory Heggie of Cornell 6-3, 6-2. Dawson then rolled to a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Sebastien Dietz to advance to the semifinals of the consolation bracket. In the semifinals, Dawson fell 7-6 (5), 6-3 to Cornell's Kyle Doppelt.
