Wai Reaches A Singles Championship at Yale Invitational

New Haven, CT - With a 6-2, 6-2 win over Columbia's Akshay Rao in the semifinals, Yale's Brandon Wai reached the finals of the A Singles flight at the Yale Invitational Saturday. Wai will face Dartmouth's Dave Webb, who beat Columbia's Rajeev Emany 2-6, 6-2, 7-5 in the semis. Emany had knocked out Yale's Milosz Gudzowski in the second round, 6-3, 6-2. Gudzowski fell to Cornell's Brett McKeon 6-2, 6-0 in the consolation bracket.

No Bulldog made it past the round of eight in the B flight. Matt Feldman beat Columbia's Ilia Shatshvili in the round of 16 consolation bracket, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. He next faces Dartmouth's Priya Sahu, who beat Yale's Andrew Arons 6-3, 6-3. In the quarterfinal consolation bracket, Johnny Lu won 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 over Cornell's Ray Wu, then won by default over Princeton's Hans Plukas.

In B doubles, Lu and Feldman advanced to the semifinals before falling to a team from Dartmouth. They will face another team from Dartmouth in the consolation bracket. The Yale team of Gudzowskia and Joe Vellanikaran topped a team from Cornell 9-7 in the quarterfinal consolation bracket.

In C singles, Vellanikaran and William Vidal were both knocked out in the first round, then lost in the semifinal round of the consolation bracket. They will face each other for third place.
