Flushing Meadows, NY - The Yale men's tennis team completed its first day of play today at the ECAC Division I Men's Tennis Invitational in Flushing Meadows, New York. The invitational hosts 16 teams including: American, Binghamton, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Manhattan, Penn State, Penn, Princeton, Rutgers, St. Bonaventure, St. Joseph's, Stony Brook, and Yale. Yale smashed American University, its first opponent of the tournament, by a score of 6-1.
In singles play, Yale lost at the No. 3 spot, but defeated American in all the other matches. Brandon Wai '07 won in straight sets at the No. 1 spot. Rowan Reynolds '06 and Rory Green '08 also won in straight sets in the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively.
Yale swept the doubles matches against American.
Yale continues play tomorrow, Oct. 1, against the No. 1 seed Penn State in the quarterfinals.
