Bulldogs Fall to Penn in ECAC Consolations

Oct. 4, 2004

The Elis fell to Penn 5-2 in the consolation bracket of the ECAC Division I Men's Tennis Tournament. Brandon Wai and Milosz Gudzowski led the Elis with individual wins, but it was not enough to defeat the Quakers.

Wai defeated Penn's Tobias 6-4, 6-0 to give Yale the victory at No. 1, and Gudzowski was a 6-4, 6-3 victor over David Lynn at the No. 2 position. In singles matches 3 through 6, however, the Elis were defeated.

Yale's toughest loss came at the No. 5 slot, where Joe Vellanikaran lost in three tight sets to Penn's Craig Rubin, 6-7(3), 7-5, 10-5.

The Quakers defeated the Bulldogs in doubles as well to earn their fifth point.

The loss gave the Elis a 7th place overall finish at the ECAC tournament.
