Bulldogs Strong On Day One Of Army Invitational

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Bulldogs blitzed through the first day of the Army Invitational today in Maryland. Yale swept all six singles matches against the Black Knights and won three doubles matches against Cornell.
Yale completely dominated in singles, with five of the six players winning in straight sets. Michael Caldwell downed Michael Good, 7-6, 6-0 at No. 1, and No. 2 Jeff Dawson took care of Sean Harris, 6-0, 6-4. No. 3 Matt Schimmel routed Chris Albornoz, 6-2, 6-2, and No. 4 Connor Dawson beat Bruno Lucivero, 6-0, 6-0. No. 5 Josh Lederman came back from a first-set loss to win a tough 4-6, 7-6, 7-6 match against Charles Mullenger, and No. 6 Tom Santoro rounded out the Bulldogs' singles wins with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Johnny Lucero.
In doubles, Yale squared off with Cornell in six matches, winning three of them. In the first round of matches, No. 2 Caldwell and Santoro downed Kevin Jay and Tongle Yu, 8-3, and the Eli duo also won in the second set of matches as the No. 1-seeded team against Bryant Yung and Wes Nichols, 8-5. Jeff Dawson and Lederman rounded out the doubles victories with an 8-6 win over Marc Asch and Jon Fite at the No. 3 seed in the second round of matches.
The tournament will conclude tomorrow.
