NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Wilson/ITA Northeast Regional Championships began Thursday at Yale with the 31 players participating completing the first two rounds of the singles qualifying draw.
Yale freshman Joel Samaha advanced to the third round of the singles qualifying draw with two victories Thursday.
In the first round, Samaha defeated Akash Muppidi of Boston College 6-4, 6-2. Samaha then cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win over the qualifying bracket's No. 7 seed John Waters of Navy
Fellow freshman Erik Blumenkranz did not fare as well. Blumenkranz dropped his first round match 7-5, 6-2 to Penn's Phil Law.
