NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Senior captain Jeff Dawson advanced to the third round of the Wilson/ITA Northeast Regional Championships Saturday with a convincing 6-3, 6-1 victory over Yan Levinski of George Washington University.
In the third day of competition at the tournament hosted by Yale, the No. 5 seeded Dawson played his first singles match of the tournament. Dawson will face Fredi Voorman of UMBC who advanced to the third round with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Ryan Gormley of Penn State.
In doubles competition, junior Connor Dawson and sophomore Calvin Bennett advanced to the third round with an 8-6 win over Bufalo's Kolomyts and Mazzetto. This victory came a day after Dawson and Bennett defated Princeton's Faust and Carpeni 8-6. The duo will face Bourchier and Lee of Penn State.
In the singles consolation draw, freshman Erik Blumenkranz advanced to the third round with two victories. Blumenkranz handed Austin Longacre of Delaware a 6-2, 7-6 defeat before topping Erik Kreutzer of Boston College 7-6, 6-4. The freshman will face Columbia's Dan Urban next.
