NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Bulldogs completed day two at the Connecticut State Championships with more success Saturday. Two Yale doubles teams will meet in the finals. Also three Yale players advanced to the semifinals in the singles draw.
A day after winning 7 of 8 doubles matches they played in, Yale players continued their success Saturday. The doubles team of Dawson and Bennett won their quarterfinal match 8-3 before advancing to the finals with an 8-4 win over the teammates Erik Blumenkranz and Jordan Abergel. Blumenkranz and Abergel had advanced to the semifinals with an 8-5 win in the quarterfinals.
Josh Lederman and Ryan Berman won their quarterfinal match 8-4 before advancing to the finals by defeating teammates Michael Caldwell and Joel Samaha 8-6 in the semifinals. Caldwell and Samaha had advanced to the semifinals with an 8-1 quarterfinals victory.
In singles play, senior Tom Santoro won his third round match 6-1, 6-0 over Sacred Heart's Cole Conrad. In the quarterfinals, Santoro defeated UConn's Scott Warden 6-3, 7-5 to advance to the finals.
Lederman rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sacred Heart's Adam Gart in the third round. In the quarterfinals, Lederman pulled out a 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (6) win over teammate Bennett, who had advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-4, 6-1 win over UConn's Joe Goldstein.
Connor Dawson won two matches Saturday to advance to the semifinals as well. Dawson defeated Sacred Heart's Kirill Kasyanov 6-3, 6-4 in the third round. In the quarterfinals, Dawson defeated teammate Matt Schimmel 7-6, 6-3.
