Bulldogs Gear Up for BU Terrier Invitational
Meet Offers Packed Competition
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - This weekend, the Bulldogs will compete in the Boston University Terrier Invitational, one of their first large meets of the season. Although the meet is not scored, it gives the chance to compete with many other schools in the Northeast, including Ivy League rivals Brown, Dartmouth and Harvard. The Bulldogs boast talented athletes across the board coming into the meet.
Senior Remi Ray won the 500-meter dash at the invitational last year in 1:02.09, beating Olympian Larry Miller's school record set in 1986. Both senior David Soiles and junior Marty Evans placed in the top 15 in the 400-meter dash at the invitational last year in a packed field of over 75 runners. Evans and Soiles also took first and second place, respectively, in the 400-meter dash at the Dartmouth-Columbia tri-meet last Saturday, which gives them high expectations going into the meet this weekend. Sophomore Matt Bieszard is another strong contender in the 400-meter and 500-meter dashes. Together, they should field a very competitive team in the 4x400-meter relay.
In the shorter sprints, senior Reynolds Holmes qualified for the finals of the 55-meter dash at the invitational last year. Junior Nathan Molina may also compete in the 55-meter dash. Senior Ted Galligan looks strong in the hurdles with a second-place finish at his last race.
Holmes may also grab points for the Bulldogs in the field events, having won the long jump at last week's meet. In the triple jump, the trio of junior Samba Binagi, sophomore Yifan Chen and freshman Tommy Winger provide plenty of strength. Senior David Smith and freshman Mike Levine both look solid in the throws, Smith winning the shot put last week and Levine placing in the top four in the weight throw at every meet so far.
The distance squad is getting back into race mode, many of them returning from their first meet of the season last week. Freshman Chris Ramsey already has wins in both the 800-meter and 1,000-meter runs. Seniors Kevin Brown, Max Brown and junior Max Walden have also put on strong performances in the distance events.
The men's competition will kick off on Saturday with the field events at 11 a.m. and the 55-meter hurdles at 11:20 a.m. and conclude with the 5,000-meter run at 6:00 p.m. A complete schedule can be found here. Results will be posted at yalebulldogs.com and directathletics.com after the meet.
