NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Bulldogs will test themselves against fellow Ivy League team Princeton, as well as Columbia and Harvard, at the Sam Howell Invitational this weekend. They will have the chance to compete at the Weaver Track and Field Stadium, which will serve as the site of outdoor Heptagonal Championships in May. Several other schools from the Northeast will compete, including Iona, NYU, Southern Connecticute State and Syracuse. After spring training and a strong start to the outdoor season at William and Mary, head coach David Shoehalter said the team looks ready going into the Princeton invitational.

“The guys are fit and eager to compete this weekend,” Shoehalter said.

The Bulldogs have a strong lineup for the distance events on Friday evening. Shoehalter said he was looking forward to seeing senior Chris Labosky make his outdoor debut after a phenomenal indoor season in which he won the 1,000-meter run at Heptagonals and earned All-Ivy honors. In the 1,500-meter run, both senior Kevin Brown and sophomore Conor Dooney are coming off of impressive races at William & Mary; Brown placed second in the 800-meter run, while Dooney placed third in the 1,500-meter run, which was the first outdoor race of his college career. Junior Matt Bogdan and sophomore Nathan Richards will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase after both running IC4A-qualifying times at William & Mary; junior Alex Harris will join them. The Bulldogs should race well in the 5,000-meter run as well with sophomore Jake McKenzie, who scored for the Bulldogs at Heptagonals, and freshman Demetri Goutos, who was one of the top newcomers to the cross-country team last year. Junior Max Walden and sophomore Sam Lynch will compete in the 10,000-meter run, also making their outdoor debuts.

After several impressive performances at William & Mary, the sprinters also look strong. Junior Marty Evans is coming off two wins in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes, while sophomore Matt Bieszard won the 100-meter dash and placed second in the 200-meter dash. Senior David Soiles and junior Chris Stanley should also contribute to the middle sprints. The Bulldogs will look to senior Ted Galligan in the hurdles and junior Nathan Molina in the shorter sprints.

The Bulldogs have several key contenders on the field. Senior Reynolds Holmes is back in the long jump after taking third at William & Mary. The duo of junior Samba Binagi and sophomore Yifan Chen, who jumped his best mark at William  & Mary, also return in the triple jump. Senior Eric DePalo will compete in the pole vault after a successful indoor season that landed him a fourth-place finish at Heptagonals. Junior David Smith will represent the Bulldogs in the shot put, while standout freshman Mike Levine should place well in the hammer throw after a win in the discus at William & Mary.

A schedule of events will be posted on goprincetontigers.com. Complete performance lists of Friday and Saturday can also be found here. Results will be posted on Yalebulldogs.com after the meet.
