Bulldogs Near End of Season with IC4As

Several Athletes Ranked in Region

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Although last week's Heptagonals Championships at Princeton marked the end of the season for most Bulldogs, many of them will have the opportunity to return to Princeton and compete at the IC4A Championships on May 14-16. The meet will feature athletes from the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions who have met the qualifying standards for their events. Eleven individuals and both sprint relays will represent the Bulldogs. From the performances at Heptagonals last weekend, the team looks ready to put on even stronger performances at IC4As.

“The guys really performed well as a team (at Heptagonals). Nearly everyone who competed either had a lifetime or season best performance,” head coach David Shoehalter said.

The 4x100-meter relay team of senior Reynolds Holmes, juniors Marty Evans and Chris Stanley and sophomore Matt Bieszard placed second at Heptagonals with a season best of 40.95, which currently ranks them as No. 4 in the Northeast by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The squad of senior David Soiles, Evans, Stanley and Bieszard will also compete in the 4x400 meter relay, in which the Bulldogs notched a third-place finish at Heptagonals, running a season best of 3:14.13 that ranks them seventh in the Northeast. Evans and Bieszard will also compete individually in the 200-meter dash, in which they went 2-3 at Heptagonals, respectively. The duo of Evans and Bieszard has fueled positive competition for each other throughout the season and the last race between the two should be an exciting one. Senior Ted Galligan will also compete in the 400-meter hurdles, in which he took fourth at Heptagonals and ran a PR of 53.19 in the preliminaries.

The distance runners have three individuals competing. Senior Chris Labosky should prove a strong competitor in the 800-meter run with a season best of 1:50.10, an NCAA provisional time. He is also coming off of a second-place finish in the event from Heptagonals. The trio of senior Alex Harris, junior Matt Bogdan and sophomore Nathan Richards will race the 3,000-meter steeplechase, with Bogdan, Richards and Harris ranked sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, for the Northeast region by the USTFCCCA. All three runners scored at Heptagonals with Harris running a PR as well.

The field events have a slew of Bulldogs who qualified for IC4As, including senior Eric DePalo in the pole vault, Holmes in the long jump, junior David Smith in the shot put and freshman Mike Levine in the discus. DePalo, who is currently ranked third in the pole vault by the USTFCCCA, won the event at Heptagonals with a season best of 5.00m. Levine has the second best throw this outdoor season in the Northeast (54.41m), while Smith has been throwing some of his best marks in postseason. Holmes will also head into IC4As with a season best of 7.10m from last weekend.

The meet starts on Friday at 1:00 p.m. with the decathlon and concludes at 9:15 p.m. with the 10,000-meter run. A complete schedule can be found here. Results will be posted on Yalebulldogs.com and lancertiming.com after the meet.
