Bulldogs to Compete at IC4As
Eight Individuals and Three Relay Teams Qualify for Meet
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The indoor season has ended for most Bulldogs, but a select group will have the chance to compete at the IC4A Championships this weekend, hosted by Boston University. The meet will feature Division I athletes from the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions who have met the IC4A qualifying standards during the season.
The distance squad has an impressive lineup, sophomore Christopher Ramsey and freshman James Shirvell in the 800-meter run, junior Julian Sheinbaum and freshman Michael Pierce in the mile and junior Nathan Richards in the 3,000-meter run. Ramsey has the fastest time in the 800-meter run for the Bulldogs this season (1:53.52), while Shirvell's second-place finish in the 1,000-meter run at indoor Heptagonals last week should also prove him a contender this weekend. In the mile, both Sheinbaum and Pierce competed at Heptagonals in the event, Sheinbaum running a season best and Pierce qualifying for IC4As with his race at Harvard-Yale-Princeton. Richards has been solid in the 3,000-meter run, running under 8:30 all season and qualifying for IC4As with his win at the Giegengack Invitational.
In the sprints, senior captain Marty Evans and junior Matthew Bieszard will compete in the 200-meter dash. Both Evans and Bieszard ran PRs at Heptagonals, Evans in the 400-meter dash and Bieszard in the 500-meter dash. Since the 200-meter dash is not held at Heptagonals, this weekend will be a good chance for both runners to showcase their speed at a high level meet.
The Bulldogs' lone competitor on the field will be sophomore Mike Levine in the weight throw, but Levine will continue his streak from last year as the only freshman from the Bulldogs to compete at IC4As. Levine brings in a season best of 17.60m.
All three relay teams, the 4x400-meter relay, 4x800-meter relay and the distance medley relay, are coming off season bests from Heptagonals. The distance medley relay also had an impressive second-place finish that set No. 7 all-time Yale indoor. The tentative lineup is Sheinbaum, freshman Daniel Jones, Ramsey and senior Matt Bogdan. The 4x800-meter relay will be fielded by junior Charlie Jaeger, sophomore Timothy Hillas, senior Itse Begho and freshman John Cocco, while the 4x400-meter relay is slated to run Evans, senior Chris Stanley, senior Nathan Molina and Bieszard.
