Evans Sets New 200-Meter Dash Record

BOSTON – The Bulldogs finished the first day of indoor IC4A Championships at Boston University, qualifying one individual and one relay team for Sunday's competition. Several athletes set personal bests and new school records at the final indoor meet of the year. 

Senior captain Marty Evans set a new all-time Yale indoor record in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash with a blazing time of 21.63. Junior Matthew Bieszard also wrote his name in Yale's record book in the 200-meter dash with a No. 3 time of 21.81, breaking 22 seconds for the first time this season.

The duo of freshman James Shirvell and sophomore Christopher Ramsey also made their marks in the 800-meter run trials, Shirvell running 1:51.67 to set the No. 6 all-time Yale indoor time and Ramsey running 1:52.27 to set No. 10. In the preliminaries of the mile, junior Julian Sheinbaum made his third consecutive PR with a time of 4:11.85, followed by freshman Michael Pierce with another PR of 4:13.89. Junior Nathan Richards also finished 13th in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:21.64.

The distance medley relay team of Sheinbaum, freshman Daniel Jones, Shirvell and senior Matt Bogdan qualified for finals with a 9:58.92 in a close race with Tufts and Temple, all finishing within half a second of each other. The team has the ninth fastest time going into Sunday's race. The 4x800 meter relay team finished in 7:51.03, fielded by junior Charlie Jaeger, sophomore Timothy Hillas, Pierce and Ramsey.

To close off the day, the 4x400 meter relay team of Evans, senior Chris Stanley, senior Nathan Molina and Bieszard capped off their indoor season with a season best of 3:16.38 and finished 12th overall in the preliminaries. 

On Sunday, Evans will compete in the finals of the 200-meter dash at 2:10 p.m., while the finals of the distance medley relay will be held at 2:25 p.m. A complete schedule of events can be found here. Results will be posted on lancertiming.com and Yalebulldogs.com after the meet.
