Bulldogs Battle Weather at Princeton
Richards Places Fifth in Steeplechase
PRINCETON, N.J. – The distance runners braved the cold and rain in the Friday Night Races at the Sam Howell Invitational, hosted by Princeton. Only those who had met the meet standards had the privilege of competing in the races. The Bulldogs had several highlights, including one qualification for IC4As.
Junior Nathan Richards took fifth place in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:04.76, running over 10 seconds below the IC4A-qualifying standard and topping his own No. 12 all-time Yale outdoor time from last year. Senior Matt Bogdan also placed 12th in 9:22.05. In the 1,500-meter run, junior Julian Sheinbaum ran a hard-fought race, placing second in his heat and 17th overall (3:56.15). The trio of junior Samuel Lynch (15:04.74), freshman Ryan Laemel (15:05.23) and sophomore Demetri Goutos (15:06.24) finished side by side in the 5,000-meter run. In the last and longest race of the night, senior Matthew Thwaites clocked in a time of 31:30.01 in the 10,000-meter run.
The Bulldogs get back to the track on Saturday under much more favorable weather conditions with a high in the 50s. The meet will start with the women's hammer throw at 11:00 a.m. and end with the men's 4x400-meter relay at 5:15 p.m. A complete schedule can be found here. Results will be posted at GoPrincetonTigers.com and Yalebulldogs.com after the meet.
