Kemp Leads the Way in Team's First Outdoor Meet
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—The Yale men's track and field team continued competition at Coastal Carolina's Shamrock Invitational on Friday. The Bulldogs officially opened their outdoor season on Thursday, when freshman Luke Persichetti placed 28th in the hammer throw. On the meet's second day, it was the Elis' hurdlers' turn to take to the track.
Junior Daniel Kemp was Yale's top finisher in the 110-meter hurdle prelims, running a 15.89 and placing 23rd overall. Kemp was a regular in the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdle events during the 2013 outdoor season, setting personal records in both events. Freshman Austin Loewen (16.00) finished directly behind Kemp in Friday's race, placing 24th, while freshman Torren Peebles (16.32) placed 29th. None of the three hurdlers managed to qualify for the 110-meter hurdle finals, scheduled for Saturday. Kemp, Loewen and Peebles competed alongside one another in the 60-meter hurdles throughout the entire indoor season, with Loewen recording the team's season-best time.
With only four Bulldogs competing during the meet's first two days, several more are scheduled to perform on Saturday. Persichetti will open the day bright and early with the discus at 9:00 a.m. and shot put at 10:00 a.m. Sophomore Max Payson is then slated to run the mile at 10:50 a.m. At 11:35 a.m., the Elis will enter a team in 4x100 meter relay. The team listed to represent the Bulldogs is that of freshman Marc-Andre Alexandre, junior Dylan Hurley, senior Daniel Jones and senior Nnamdi Udeh, although that group could be changed before Saturday's race. Just before 1:00 p.m., Hurley, freshman Chandler Crusan and junior Mario Kranjac will take part in the 400-meter dash. About one hour later, junior Michael Grace, freshman Andre Ivankovic, sophomore Alexander McDonald and freshman James Randon will run the 800-meter event. In Yale's final three events of the day, junior William Rowe will run the 400-meter hurdles, sophomore Brendan Sullivan will take part in the pole vault and the trio of senior Michael Cunetta, senior Ryan Laemel and junior Matt Nussbaum will run the 3,000-meters.
Full results will be posted on www.yalebulldogs.com at the end of the day on Saturday.
