NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Yale men's track and field team will host the annual Harvard-Yale dual meet this Saturday at the Dewitt Cuyler Track and Field Complex. Each year, this meet brings together the two rival schools, and it never fails to produce exciting moments. Yale will be fielding all of its top athletes, so this weekend's meet will certainly be one not to miss.
Competition will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Andrew Rochon taking on the hammer throw and Austin Laut raising the bar in the pole vault. Following these events will be Jake Hoops and Rochon in the shot put; and Mike Koller, Carl Mansson and Jimmy Shih in the long jump. The field events taking place in the afternoon will consist of Hoops and Rochon in the discus – this will be Rochon's first meet in which he competes in all three throwing events – with Mansson and Shih returning to the runway for the triple jump. Following completion of the pole vault, CJ McCord and Spencer O'Neill will be chasing new heights in the high jump.
The running events will begin at 1:05 p.m. for the men's team with the 4x100m relay. The Bulldogs will be fielding two 4x100m relay squads: the "A" team of Paedyn Gomes, Kyle Macauley, Alex McIntyre and Vincent Vaughns; and the "B" team of Ekrem Ayhan, Gregory Campbell, Jr., Connor Hill and Alex Young.
Following the 4x100m relay will be the 3,000m steeplechase featuring Neil Braganza, in what will be his steeplechase debut, and Matt Chisholm, Connecticut high school state record holder in the 2,000m steeplechase. Zach Capello, James Lewis, Allen Siegler, Austin Stoner, Alex Whittaker and Michael Yuan will compete in the 1,500m run, following the steeplechasers.
At 1:55 p.m., expect to catch Paedyn Gomes and Ben Shelley storming down the homestretch for the 110mH. Campbell, Jr., and McIntyre will return to the track for the 400m dash, following the completion of the hurdles. Macauley, McIntyre, Vaughns and Young will all be chasing quick times in the shortest event of the day: the 100m dash. With temperatures just beginning to rise in New Haven, this weekend's sprinting events should be action-packed.
At 2:40 p.m., Thomas Gmür, Will Laird, Trevor Reinhart, Kohl Swift and Cameron Wyman will race against some of the Ivy League's best in the 800m run. Reinhart, Gmür and Laird are all more accustomed to racing longer distances, so this will be a fantastic opportunity for them to tap into their speed.
Following the 800m run will be Jonathan Ascher and Jackson Chapman in the 400mH, one of the more grueling events on the track. Following the completion of the 400mH, Ayhan, Hill, McIntyre, Shelley, Vaughns and Young will all return to the track for the 200m dash, one of the Bulldogs' deepest events.
In the only contest of the 3,000m run during the outdoor season, Nick Dahl, Charlie Gardner, Jonathan Lomogda, Armstrong Noonan and Patrick Perry will toe the line at 3:40 p.m., looking to score big for the Bulldogs. Concluding the day will be the 4x400m relay team of Campbell, Jr., Hill, Ayhan and McIntyre.
A full recap will be posted after the meet, and a link to results will be posted to this story as it is made available.
