Sunday afternoon at Coxe Cage, the men's track team gave a formidable showing in their first Ivy League meet of the season. They trounced the competition, out-scoring Dartmouth by 34 points, and doubling Columbia's score to win the meet handily with 86 points. Twelve events were won by the Bulldogs en route to their victory, while five athletes and both relays made the qualifying marks for the IC4A Championships.

The Bulldogs saw plenty of success in the sprints, winning all five events. The winners were junior Ted Galligan (60-meter hurdles, 8.56), senior Brandon Giles (60-meter dash, 6.94), sophomore Marty Evans (200-meter dash, 22.40), freshman Matthew Beiszard (400-meter dash, 49.71) and junior David Soiles (500-meter dash, 1:04.25). Giles and Soiles both qualified for the IC4A-championships with their times.

Junior Remi Ray, who usually sticks to the sprints, stepped up in distance this weekend, winning the 800-meter run in 1:55.68. Fellow junior Kevin Brown placed second in the event, crossing the line 1:57.47.

Continuing the success in the middle-distance events, Senior Murat Kayali earned second-place in the mile with an impressive time of 4:10.59. He came back later in the day to complete a successful double, placing second in the 1,000-meter run with time of 2:27.87 and qualifying for IC4As in both events.

In the relays, the 4x400-meter team of Evans, Bieszard, Galligan, Soiles won in 3:18.39 with an exciting finish: Soiles chased down Columbia's anchor leg in the final stretch to win the race amidst cheering teammates and spectators.

While the 4x800-meter relay team was outpaced by Columbia and Dartmouth by mere seconds, they still managed to surpass the IC4A-qualifying mark with their time of 7:45.94.

In the field events, Yale won nearly every event, garnering first-place finishes from senior Jeffrey Lachman, who won both the weight throw (17.35m) and the shot put (15.72m), senior Sam Fox (high jump, 2.05m), junior Reynolds Holmes (long jump, 6.99m) and junior Eric DePalo (pole vault, 4.50m). Fox and Lachman both qualified for IC4As.

Next weekend, the Bulldogs will travel to Boston to face off against a plethora of Northeastern teams at the Boston University Terrier Invitational.
