BOSTON - In the first day of the IC4A Championships, the Bulldogs put up some impressive performances in the preliminary heats. Despite only bringing a partial squad to the meet, held at Boston University, a few Yale men posted some of the top times of the day in the mile run and the 4x400 meter relay among a field of some of the best talent in the Northeast.
The mile run saw two of Yale's seniors run personal-best times en route to qualifying for Sunday's final. Jared Bell ran 4:05.55, which moves him up to No. 4 on Yale's All-Time indoor performance list, and was the third-fastest time of the day. Jake Gallagher ran 4:07.37, which ranks No. 9 All-Time.
David Soiles also ran a top-10 indoor time in his event, clocking a personal-best 1:03.97 in the 500-meter dash to place 14th overall.
The Bulldogs closed Saturday's meet with a season-best performance in the 4x400-meter relay. Yale's team of sophomore Marty Evans, freshman Matthew Bieszard, junior Remi Ray, and Soiles won their heat by over five seconds with a blazing time of 3:13.73, which included a split of 47.5 from Ray. This was not only the third-fastest time of the day, but also No. 3 All-Time for the Bulldogs, and the fastest by a Yale team since 2005.
On Sunday, Bell, Gallagher and the 4x400m relay will compete in the IC4A finals, joined by Samuel Fox in the high jump and Jeffrey Lachman in the shot put. Results will be posted on the Lancer Timing website at the conclusion of the meet.
This weekend will be the final team competition for this indoor season.
