Langhauser, 4x100 Relay Team Provide Highlights at UC Irvine Collegiate Classic

IRVINE, Calif. - Yale concluded its spring break trip to California by competing in UC Irvine's Collegiate Classic Saturday afternoon. John Langhauser won the shot put with a throw of 16.40 meters, and the Bulldogs also got a win from their 4x100-meter relay team with a time of 41.09.

Brandon Giles posted the second-fastest time of the day in the 200-meter dash at 21.78, with teammate Russ Kempf's 22.09 not far behind. Victor Cheng finished in 22.15.

The Bulldogs had the 3-4-5 finishers in the 1500-meter run in Jared Bell (3:51.98), Brian Gertzen (3:52.85) and Tadhg O'Callaghan (3:55.72).

Dan O'Brien placed second in the 110-meter hurdles (14.53) and Brian Hanak was fourth in the 3000-meter steeplechase (9:31.73).

In addition to Langhauser's winning performance, the Bulldogs also got a top-five finish in the shot put from Jeffrey Lachman (14.08m). Lachman placed third in the discus (46.68m), with Langhauser fifth (45.76m). Kevin Hickenbottom (53.46m) and Jackson Womack (51.74m) were third and fourth respectively in the javelin throw.

Yale is at the Southern Connecticut State Invitational next Saturday.
