Field Events Highlight Bulldogs' Second Day at Penn Relays

April 25, 2008

PHILADELPHIA - On the second day of the Penn Relays, Yale sent a number of relays in addition to a few select field competitors. The field events were a source of success for the Bulldogs, as junior Jeffrey Lachman and sophomore Eric DePalo gave convincing performances in their respective events. Lachman placed fourth in the Championship Discus throw competition with a personal best distance of 52.92m (173-7). The effort moves him up to No. 3 on Yale's all-time performance list, and earns him a spot at the NCAA East regional championships in Tallahassee, Fla. next month. Depalo Won His Flight of the pole vault with a height of 5.00m (16'4.75"), well surpassing the IC4A-qualifying mark of 4.80m, but missing the NCAA regional-qualifying mark (5.05m) by a mere 5 centimeters.

Yale also competed in three relays on Friday. The 4x200-meter relay of junior Brandon Giles, sophomore Reynolds Holmes, freshman Marty Evans and senior Victor Cheng placed 25th overall in a deep field with a time of 1:27.26. Later, the 4x400-meter relay team of Evans, senior Matt Bordoni, senior Michael Camarda and sophomore David Soiles placed second in the Heptagonal heat in 3:17.74, being outpaced only by Cornell. In the Distance Medley relay Championship of America, Yale's team of sophomore Chris Labosky, Soiles, senior Tadhg O'Callaghan and junior Jared Bell placed thirteenth in 10:02.48.

On Saturday, the third and final day of competition at Penn, the Bulldogs will compete in the 4x800-meter relay.
