West Haven, CT - Two Yale seniors, Rob Lobue and Eoghan O'Dwyer, made sure their final seasons would continue for at least two more weeks by qualifying for the NCAA Regionals at the IC4A Championships Saturday. Lobue placed 11th in the 800-meter run trials with a time of 1:50.43, while O'Dwyer's throw of 55.68 meters in the hammer throw -- a personal record -- placed him ninth. Both will now compete in the Regionals in Gainesville, Fla. on Memorial Day Weekend.
Yale's top performance came in the 4x800-meter relay trials, with the Bulldogs finishing first (7:32.39, ahead of Georgetown's 7:34.78), and qualifying for the finals Sunday at 3:10. Yale was 16th in both the 4x100-meter relay trials (41.81) and 4x400-meter relay trials (3:15.14).
Josh Yelsey, who had already qualified for the Regionals, had Yale's best individual finish of the day by placing sixth (3:50.73) in the 1500-meter run trials and qualifying for the finals Sunday at 12:25. Teammate Casey Moriarty was 28th (3:56.04).
In addition to those who qualified on Saturday, Yale will also have Jihad Beauchman in the triple jump (11:00 am) on Sunday.
