NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Six Yale athletes earned All-East honors for their strong performances at the IC4A Championships in Boston Mar. 7-8. These honors were given to all athletes who finished in the top eight at the meet last weekend. Individual honors were given to senior Jake Gallagher in the mile run and sophomore Max Walden in the 5,000-meter run. The members of the 4x400-meter relay team, sophomore Marty Evans, freshman Matthew Bieszard, junior Remi Ray and junior David Soiles, were also named All-East.
Gallagher (Halifax, Nova Scotia) placed eighth in the finals of mile run with a time of 4:11.07. Even more impressive, this performance was only one day after Gallagher ran a time of 4:07.37 in the preliminary heats, which ranks No. 9 all-time for Yale indoors.
Walden (Guilford, Conn.) had a breakout race in the 5,000-meter run, placing sixth overall. He won his heat in 14:23.02, which was a personal-best time by over 20 seconds, and the fifth-best indoor performance ever for the Bulldogs for this event.
The 4x400-meter relay finished sixth in the finals. The same team of Evans (Charlotte, N.C.), Bieszard (Midland Park, N.J.), Ray (Westport, Conn.) and Soiles (Worcester, Mass.) became the forth-fastest in Yale history indoors just the day before in the prelims, running 3:13.73. They ran only one second off this time in the finals, finishing in 3:14.52.
While IC4As concludes the indoor season, the Bulldogs will be back in action for the outdoor season next weekend. At the end of their annual spring training trip to California, the Bulldogs will compete at the UCI Invitational in Irvine from Mar. 20-21.
