NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Coaches of the men's track and field team have announced the schedule for the 2008-2009 season. The Bulldogs will commence their indoor season with three consecutive home meets, beginning with the Lidifter Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 6.
Yale will also host the Giegengack Invitational Feb. 6 and 7. The Giegengack, named after legendary Yale coach Robert Giegengack, brings some of the top talent in the area to the William Clay Ford Indoor Track Center in Coxe Cage. Last year, Georgetown's Andrew Bumbalough. ran a 3:58.46 mile on the Frank Shorter '69 Track.
After the Giegengack, Yale faces its long-time rivals Harvard and Princeton in Cambridge, which is also the site of the Ivy League's Indoor Heptagonal Championships Feb.28-Mar.1. The IC4A Championships take place the following weekend.
The first outdoor competition of the season will take place at UC-Irvine on Mar. 21. A highlight of this outdoor season is the return of the bi-annual Yale/Harvard vs. Oxford/Cambridge meet, which will be hosted by the Bulldogs on April 10. The meet was last contested at Oxford during the summer of 2007. Another season highlight will be a trip to the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia. Just two weeks after the Relays, the Bulldogs will return to Penn's track to compete at the Outdoor Heptagonal Championships. Later in May, the Bulldogs will compete at IC4As and the NCAA Regional Championships. The outdoor season will conclude with the NCAA Championships in Fayetteville, Ark. in June.
