Many to Compete in Last Regular Season Meet

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Bulldogs will test themselves against some of the best teams in the nation at the competitive Penn State National meet this Saturday. As the team gears up for Heptagonals Championships, head coach Dan Ireland said the runners hope to head into post-season with a strong performance this weekend.

"Everyone has the same mindset for this race: To run our best race of the season as both individuals and as a team. That will close out the regular season on a positive note," Ireland said.

The Bulldogs should see huge contributions from senior Jeff Perrella and junior Julian Sheinbaum, who went 1-2 for the Bulldogs at Harvard-Yale. Sheinbaum, along with senior captain Max Walden and junior Nathan Richards, all placed in the Bulldogs' top seven at the two meets in which the Bulldogs ran their top group, the Dartmouth Invitational and Harvard-Yale. Junior Conor Dooney, who was the Bulldogs' fourth runner at Harvard-Yale in his only race of the season, could also play a key role, as well as fellow sophomore Sam Kirtner, who had a strong opening to the season and came in first for the Bulldogs at the New England Championships last weekend. Freshman Michael Cunetta may also continue to impress this Saturday, having already finished as the Bulldogs' second runner twice this season. Other runners that may contribute include senior Chris Scavone, and sophomores Demetri Goutos, Kevin Lunn and Matthew Thwaites.

The meet will host a national-class field, including No. 14 Syracuse and No. 23 Penn State. Fellow Ivy League schools Cornell and Penn will also compete. Nevertheless, the Bulldogs are ready to give their strongest showing before Heptagonals.

"As a team, we are very excited where we are at this point in the season and very excited about what lies ahead for the remainder of the season," Ireland said.

The men's race kicks off at 10:00 a.m. Results will be posted on www.GoPSUsports.com, www.runhigh.com and Yalebulldogs.com after the meet.
