Lynch Paces Yale Again
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Yale men's cross country team competed in the Paul Short Invitational on Friday, placing 19th of 45 teams. The Bulldogs combined for 565 points, just four behind the 18th-place American University squad and only three in front of host Lehigh University. In all, 402 athletes competed in Bulldogs' division.
Senior Sam Lynch was again the team's front-runner, finishing the 8k course in 25:20, which was good for 68th place overall. Junior Kevin Lunn was right on his heels, crossing the line nine seconds later in 90th place. He was followed by a trio of Yale blue jerseys, sophomore Michael Cunetta (124th- 25:43), junior Matthew Thwaites (137th- 25:47) and sophomore Miles Richardson (146th- 25:49). Junior Demetri Goutos (148th- 25:50) and senior captain Nathan Richards (196th- 26:17) also competed for the Bulldogs.
Yale outpaced teams from Penn and Princeton. The competitive field included seven nationally-ranked squads, including Oklahoma (1st place), Georgetown (2nd), Villanova (4th), Syracuse (5th), and Providence (6th). Paul Chelimo of North Carolina posted the best time of the field, finishing first overall in 23:55.
