Megan Vasquez Named Ivy League Rookie of the Week
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – After averaging 16.0
points in a pair of road contests against 2009 NCAA Tournament
participants Sacred Heart and Kansas State this past week, Megan
Vasquez (Merrick, N.Y.) of the Yale women’s basketball team
has been honored by the Ivy League as its Rookie of the Week.
Vasquez led the Bulldogs in scoring in both games last week.
Vasquez, who leads Yale with 10.8 points per game in 2009-10, made
her third career start on Monday at Sacred Heart and notched a
team-high 14 points. The freshman guard was even better on Saturday
at Big 12 foe Kansas State, a team that advanced to the second
round of last season’s NCAA Tournament, knocking down half of
her shots (6-for-12) from the floor and draining three
three-pointers en route to posting a career-best 18 points.
For the week, Vasquez shot 40.7% (11-for-27) from the floor, 83.3%
(5-for-6) from the free throw line and 38.5% (5-for-13) from beyond
the three-point arc. She rounded out her weekly statline with five
rebounds, five assists and three steals while averaging 26.5
minutes per game.
Vasquez and the Bulldogs are back in action tonight, as they trek
to Boulder, Colo. for a matchup with Big 12 opponent Colorado.
Tip-off from the Coors Event Center is scheduled for 7 p.m.
MST.
