Yale Announces Game Time, Ticket Info For WNIT First Round
NEW HAVEN, Conn. — The Yale University women's basketball team announced Tuesday afternoon that its first-round game in the Women's National Invitational Tournament against Boston College will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday. The game will be played inside John J. Lee Amphitheater on the Yale University campus.
The Yale Athletic Department also announced the ticket information for the game Tuesday afternoon. Ticket prices for Thursday's game are $4 for students and $5 for general admission. Special group rates of $2 are available, but packages must be reserved in advance. Please contact the Yale Ticket Office for more information at 203-432-1402.
The game is Yale's first postseason game since 1979. It is also the Bulldogs' first-ever appearance in the WNIT. Yale has played in a postseason tournament only three times in its 38-year history, in 1977, 1978 and 1979.
Yale was one of 31 teams to earn an automatic berth in the WNIT. Boston College earned the automatic berth from the Atlantic Coast Conference. The remaining 33 teams in the 64-team field earned at-large berths.
Yale earned the Ivy League's automatic berth after finishing the regular season tied with Harvard in the League standings with a 10-4 record. The Bulldogs won the tiebreaker by virtue of sweeping the Crimson in the season series for the first time since the 1993-94 season. The Bulldogs finished 10-4 in Ivy League play for only the second time in their history, matching their Ivy League finish in 1988-89.
The WNIT will open with first-round games Wednesday through Friday, March 16-18. All games in the single-elimination tournament are held on the campuses of participating schools. Second-round games will be played Saturday through Monday, March 19-21. Third-round games will be held March 23-25. The WNIT quarterfinals are scheduled to be held March 26-28. The WNIT's Final Four semifinal games will be played on March 30-31. The WNIT Championship game will be held on April 2, and will be hosted by one of the two final participating schools.
Should Yale advance past Boston College on Thursday, it will face the winner of the St. Joseph's-Virginia Commonwealth matchup.
