Event Set For Friday, May 13 From 7:15 To 9 a.m.
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Farnam Neighborhood House's fourth annual Sports Celebrity Breakfast, sponsored by SCS Systems, Inc. and First Niagara Bank, will have a distinct Yale women's basketball flavor. Head coach Chris Gobrecht will be the guest speaker, and assistant coach Queen Smith will receive the Polly Sweeten Excellence In Sports Award. The breakfast is Friday, May 13 from 7:15 to 9 a.m. at Amarante's Sea Cliff at 62 Cove Street in New Haven.
Gobrecht, who just completed her 31st season as a collegiate head coach, has 487 career victories. This past season she guided the Bulldogs to a second-place finish in the Ivy League. Yale then hosted Boston College in a WNIT game at the John J. Lee Amphitheater.
Smith, a life-long New Haven resident, completed her fourth year on Gobrecht's staff. She is a Farnam House alum and is being honored for her numerous contributions to youth athletics.
Farnam House is seeking table sponsors for the breakfast. As a table sponsor, your business or organization invites 10 guests to sit at your table and designates a "Celebrity Waiter or Waitress" to help serve the breakfast. The cost is $700. Or you can sponsor the table for $200 and your guest would be responsible for tipping the waiter/waitress ($50/person suggested minimum).
All fees are tax deductible and will benefit children, teens and families involved in Farnam's social, educational and recreational programs at the neighborhood center in Fair Haven and at Camp Farnam in Durham, Conn.
