Chris Gobrecht to be Featured on “Inside Ivy League Basketball"

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Chris Gobrecht, the Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954, Head Coach of Women's Basketball at Yale University, is scheduled to be one of the featured guests on the next episode of "Inside Ivy League Basketball" on Thursday.

The second episode of the week, "Inside Ivy League Basketball" will feature Coach Gobrecht and Wesley Saunders, a sophomore guard on the Harvard men's basketball team. The episode will air Thursday at 7 p.m. on Blog Talk Radio at

The ninth head coach in the 40 seasons of women's basketball at Yale, Gobrecht is in her eighth season as the Bulldogs' head coach and her 33rd season as a Division I head coach. She currently holds a career record of 506-434. Thanks to Yale's win over Fordham on Dec. 4, Gobrecht moved into second place on Yale's all-time coaching wins list. With 81 wins as Yale's head coach, she past Diann Nestel (79-78) on Yale's all-time wins list. She is 26 wins away from surpassing Cecelia DeMarco (107-127) as Yale's all-time winningest head coach.

During her tenure at Yale, Gobrecht has coached 23 players that earned Ivy League postseason awards, including two Ivy League Rookies of the Year (Sarah Halejian, 2011-12; Melissa Colborne, 2006-07), four All-Ivy First Team honorees (Megan Vasquez, 2011-12 & 2010-11; Colborne, 2007-08; Erica Davis, 2006-07), three All-Ivy Second Team honorees, four All-Ivy Honorable Mention players, five All-Ivy Rookie Team players and six Ivy League Academic Team honorees. Prior to Gobrecht's arrival in the Elm City, a Bulldog player had not earned first team All-Ivy accolades since Katy Grubbs following the 1997-98 campaign.

The 2012-13 season marks the 40th season of women's basketball at Yale University. Throughout the season, Yale will be celebrating the program's historic achievement.
