NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior guard Roxy Barahman (Calabasas, Calif.), who helped the Yale women's basketball team to 16 wins this season -- tied for third-most in program history -- was honored by the Ivy League Wednesday as a first team All-Ivy selection.
Barahman delivered some of the season's signature moments, including a buzzer-beating three pointer from near half court on Feb. 1 to beat archrival Harvard 65-62 at Lee Amphitheater. On Mar. 1 at Cornell she became the 22nd player in Yale history to score 1,000 or more points. She reached the magic number with a pull-up jumper in the second quarter.
Barahman is 49th in the nation in points per game (18.6). She is among the Ivy League's top 12 in:
- Points per game (1st, 18.6)
- Steals per game (2nd, 2.0)
- Assists per game (6th, 3.9)
- Field goal percentage (8th, .388)
- Rebounds per game (12th, 6.5)
She is the only Ivy League women's basketball player who is in the league's top 12 in points, steals, rebounds and assists. Her 4.3 assists per game in Ivy games led the league.
Here are her highs for the season in select categories:
- Points: 33 at Princeton Feb. 8 (career high)
- Rebounds: 14 vs. North Carolina A&T Dec. 29 (career high)
- Assists: 7 vs. Princeton Mar. 9 (career high is 9, Feb. 9, 2018 at Columbia)
- Steals: 5 (twice) (tied career high from Nov. 19, 2017 at Kansas)
Also an excellent defender, Barahman helped the Bulldogs limit their opponents to a .364 shooting percentage -- third-best in the league.
This is the second Ivy honor of Barahman's career. She was an honorable mention All-Ivy selection last season. An ecology and evolutionary biology major in Davenport College at Yale, she is a graduate of Oaks Christian.
The All-Ivy League team is determined by a vote of the league's eight head coaches and is based on performance in league games. Yale has now had six All-Ivy League selections in Allison Guth's four seasons as the team's Joel E. Smilow, Class of 1954 Head Coach of Women's Basketball.
