Porter Named EAWRC Varsity Coach of the Year; Maloney Earns Assistant Varsity Coach Of Year Honors
Duo Helped Guide Bulldogs To Willing Trophy For Team Supremacy At 2009 Sprints
NEW HAVEN, Conn. - Will Porter, who guided the Yale women's crew to the Willing Trophy for team supremacy at the Eastern Sprints last spring, has been named the 2009 EAWRC Varsity Coach of the Year. In addition, Kate Maloney, who led the Bulldogs novice eight to its first Eastern Sprints title since 1987, was selected as the Assistant Varsity Coach of the Year.
All six Yale boats finished either first or second at the Eastern Sprints. Porter, who won the award for the third time, coached the varsity eight to its third Sprints title in the last five years. Yale's varsity four and second varsity four also won grand finals as the Bulldogs captured the Willing Trophy for the second time in last three years. Yale then went on to finish third at the NCAA Championships.
