Assistant Coach Kate Maloney Guides A Women's Pair
RACICE, Czech Republic – Maddie Lips, who will be a freshman for the Yale women's crew starting in the fall, won a silver medal with the United States' women's eight at the 2010 World Rowing Junior Championships over the weekend. In addition, Yale assistant coach Kate Maloney served as the coach of the women's pair.
The U.S. eight finished with a time of 6:28.08, nearly three seconds behind first-place Great Britain. Germany edged Romania for the bronze medal.
Lips, who was featured in the Faces In the Crowd section of a recent Sports Illustrated, won the women's youth single scull event at the U.S. Rowing Youth National Championships earlier this summer. She was also part of the eight that won its event at the Independence Day Regatta in Philadelphia. In 2009, Lips was part of the USA Junior National High Performance team in Berlin, Germany.
Maloney, the 2007 CRCA New England Assistant Coach of the Year, has served as an assistant for the U.S. Junior National Team Development squad in each of the last four years.
