Eight Rowers, One Coxswain Headed To Yale
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Yale women's crew coach Will Porter will welcome eight rowers and one coxswain to New Haven next fall. The class features size, athleticism and experience. Four of the eight rowers are 6' or taller, most have rowed for four years and are multi-sport athletes. Seven of the nine have participated at USA JR National Team camps. There are three athletes from the West Coast, four from the East Coast, one from Texas and one from Canada.
Blair Baker, Juliet Caragianis, Nina Demmerle, Christine Devlin, Madeline Dinse, Kristjana Gudmundsson, Maureen O'Hanlan, Elizabeth Vincent and Kristina Wagner were admitted early to Yale and all matriculated immediately.
"This is a good class," Porter said. "They are exactly what we are looking for - great students, committed to Yale, passionate about rowing, eager to get better as athletes and as people. Eager to go fast. You gotta love it!"

Rowing Highlights: 2009-2011 Captain Exeter Crew… 2010 CanAmMex Selection Camp, bronze medal with the SE Juniors at USRowing Club Nationals… Bronze medal with Exeter at the 2010 NEIRA's in the G1 and a gold medal at the 2009 NEIRA's in the G2.
Other sports: Varsity swimming… 2010-2011 captain… team champions at the 2010 New England Championships… Bronze medal in the Florida Junior Olympics in the 1650y freestyle in 2009 and top times in her age group in the USAT Triathlon Sprint Series in Florida form 2006-2010
Idol: Her mother, for teaching her the value of hard work, persistence and love.

Porter says: "Juliet is all up side. She is a good, tall athlete who is new to rowing but is plugged into a good program with an experienced coach. I look to her to improve with every stroke she takes."
Rowing Highlights: Helped to start the Elmwood Girls Rowing Program… Finished third at the Head of the Fish 2010.
Other sports: Varsity basketball, rugby and volleyball… 2009 MVP for Provincial Rugby Tournament
Idol: Her mom for the many jobs that come with being a mother, architect, wife and family planner as well as the valuable life lessons and character traits she has taught Juliet.

Porter says: "Nina is an all around athlete with international experience. She is coached by Christine Glandorf, a former YWC athlete and two-time national champion which means she will be ready to go when she gets here. She rows with length and skill."

Other sports: Competitive dance where she trained with and learned from the most recognized Scottish dancers when she was learning different forms of Celtic dance.
