Afeyan To Row In Single Scull At Under-23 World Championship

Competing For Armenia In Amsterdam

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Rising senior Armine Afeyan, who helped the Yale varsity eight to an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Championships in May, will row in a single scull for Armenia at the 2011 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Amsterdam. Afeyan's first race is scheduled for Thursday.

At Yale, Afeyan sat in the No. 5 seat of the varsity eight that finished second in the petite final at the NCAA Championship this spring. As a junior and sophomore, she rowed in the second varsity, helping the Bulldogs win the NCAA grand final in 2009.

Afeyan is one of two Yale rowers at the World Championships. Catherine McDermott is sitting in the bow seat in the United States' Women's Four (W4-), which also races for the first time on Thursday.
