Look to Repeat Last Year's Victory on Housatonic
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – When the Yale women's crew team takes to the water in Derby, Conn., for the Oct. 8 Head of the Housatonic race, it will look to repeat last year's commanding 19-second victory.
In the race's 17th installment, the Yale crew will attempt to capitalize on its hard these past few months. Despite this, the race will not be easy: the Head of the Housatonic is the second largest fall race in New England, behind the Oct. 22-23 Head of the Charles regatta.
Coming off an 11th-place finish at last year's NCAA Championship, the Bulldogs are well positioned to improve upon past performances. Saturday's race will provide a good opportunity for the team to ratchet up its performance to the same caliber it has achieved in the past.
Typically, the fall season is seen as an excellent training ground for the spring season. The team's main goals, beginning this weekend, are to refine technique after the summer's work, and develop its competitive racing spirit.
Racing will kick off Saturday morning and spectators can watch on from the Glider Boathouse.
