Wagner Voted Crew Of Year By Row2k

Part Of Pair That Had Very Successful Year

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Freshman Kristina Wagner had an impressive list of rowing accomplishments before she arrived at Yale. That success was rewarded when she and pairs partner Lizzy Fitzhenry were voted the 2011 Crew of the Year by Row2k.com. The Saratoga Junior pair received 30.4 percent of the vote, edging the University of California's freshman eight to receive the honor.

"It means a lot to my pair partner and I to receive this award," Wagner said. "We rowed together for three years in high school and this is just the cherry on top of an amazing experience rowing together."

Wagner and Fitzhenry, who is a freshman at Harvard, won the Sarasota Invitational, the Saratoga Invitational and captured three events at Canadian Henley (the junior, senior and championship pairs). In addition, they placed second at Elite Nationals and at the Independence Day regatta.

"I'd have to say that winning the junior pair at Canadian Henley was the most memorable accomplishment of the year just because that was our goal from the start and that was really the driving force behind us the whole time," Wagner said.

Wagner has quickly adapted to life at Yale.

"The adjustment to Yale has been amazing," she said. "Not only is school awesome, but my teammates are so incredible. It is such a privilege to be able to row with them and they inspire me to be better every day."
