Bulldogs Face No. 5 Princeton, No. 7 Southern California
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Two more top-10 opponents are on tap for the Yale women's crew. The Bulldogs, ranked 17th in this week's CRCA/US Rowing national poll, face No. 5 Princeton and No. 7 Southern California on Saturday. Racing on Lake Carnegie in New Jersey begins at 9 a.m. Yale and Princeton's varsity eights will be competing for the Eisenberg Cup. That race is scheduled to go off at 10:10 a.m.
Yale raced at home on the Housatonic River for the first time last Saturday. The Bulldogs' second varsity improved to 5-2 on the season with victories over Dartmouth, Boston University and Cornell. The varsity four beat Dartmouth and BU but lost to Cornell, and the varsity eight was victimized by a photo finish against Dartmouth and also suffered a narrow loss to Cornell.
Princeton's varsity eight has won 20 straight Ivy League regular season races. The Tigers last loss came April 18, 2009, against Yale.
Southern California is coming off a very impressive performance at the San Diego Crew Classic. The Trojans won the prestigious Jessop-Whittier Cup for the second year in a row after the varsity eight turned in an impressive performance against the top teams in the country. USC's varsity eight dominated their race from beginning to end finishing with a time of 7:03.93, a boat length ahead of No. 1 ranked UVA, No. 8 Washington, No. 2 California, UCLA and No. 5 Stanford to claim the fourth Jessop-Whittier Cup in school history.
