Tess Gerrand ’10, Australia Earn Spot In 2012 Olympics
Win Women's Eight Final At Olympic Qualification Regatta
NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Tess Gerrand '10, who helped the Yale women's crew win three varsity eight NCAA titles, is headed to the 2012 Olympics. Gerrand was part of the Australian eight that won the women's final at the Olympic Qualification Regatta in Lucerne, Switzerland, on Tuesday.
The Australian eight finished with a time of 6:12.36, more than three seconds faster than second-place Germany.
At Yale, Gerrand was a four-time CRCA first team All-American. She sat in the varsity eight crews that won NCAA titles in 2007, 2008 and 2010. She also helped the Bulldogs capture three Ivy League championships.
Gerrand likely won't be the only former Yale women's rower to compete in London. Ashley Brozozowicz '04, who rowed for Canada at the 2008 Olympics, remains a member of the Canadian national team, while Jamie Redman '08 and Taylor Ritzel '10 are strong candidates to be named to the United States team.
The rowing competition at the 2012 Olympics begins on July 28 on Dorney Lake, which is about 25 miles west of London.
