Varsity Eight Third Overall In Women's Championship Eight
It was a memorable day for the Yale women's crew at the Head of the Charles in Boston. The Bulldogs varsity eight was the fastest collegiate crew and finished third overall in the Women's Championship Eight. Yale's second varsity eight finished 11th in the event, which was better than a number of collegiate first varsity eights.
"Both boats performed really well despite some tough conditions," said Will Porter, The Friends of YWC Head Coach of the Bulldogs. "We've had some great even boat racing and everyone's pushing really hard."
The varsity eight finished the course with a time of 16:47.046, which trailed only a Cambridge crew and one from the New York Athletic Club. Brown was the second fastest collegiate finisher, crossing the line in 16:47.739.
The crew for the Bulldogs was: 8: Schuyler Ritchie, 7: Marybeth Swords; 6: Lily Lindsay; 5: Amy Warner; 4: Julia Sesler; 3: Meg Galloway; 2: Alison Nordell; 1: Arwen Neski and coxswain Jessica Michaels.
"The varsity eight was low, long and strong doing some power rowing into the headwind," Porter said.
Yale's second varsity also turned in an impressive performance, finishing with a time of 17:33.007.
Yale closes out the fall season at the Princeton Chase next Sunday.
