Incoming Bulldogs Win Medals at Junior World Championships
NEW HAVEN, CT – Four incoming Yalies, Emmeline Laurence, Margaret Hedeman, Alin Pasa and Phoebe Campbell, have officially ended their junior rowing careers with strong results at the 2018 Junior World Rowing Championships in Racice, Czech Republic.
Hedeman '22 won gold representing the USA in the 4-. Sitting 3 seat, Hedeman and her teammates led the field throughout the race. Despite facing a push from Italy during the last 500, the Americans managed to hold onto their lead crossing the line in 6:42.8. Today's result marks the first gold in this event for the USA since 2015.
Pasa '22 coxed the USA 8+ to a silver medal finish. The crew put down an impressive final 500 to cross the line about 2 seconds behind the Czech Republic. The USA has not been on the medal stand in this event since 2015, and last won gold in 2012.
Racing for the USA in the 4x, Laurence finished 4th in the B Final for a 10th place finish overall. The crew finished with a time of 6:06.5.
Racing for Great Britain in the 4x, Campbell finished 5th overall with a time of 6:37.8. This year marks Campbell's second appearance at the World Championships. She raced the 4x last year as well finishing 4th in the event.
These impressive rowers now have a well-earned two week break before moving onto campus. Classes start August 28th.
